WHAT IS IT?

• Call of the Crown is a Warhammer Fantasy inspired painting challenge; it began in 2020 under Jesse Callaghan and was hosted by Joshua Van Zaane at the Crown of Command podcast; it was subsequently stewarded by Gert-Jan van Heugten at GJ's Workshop for the next two years; and then by me, David M., at 5thHammer
  
  

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

• Anyone who has fantasy minis they want to paint, with the ability to take pictures and email them
  
  

WHY DO IT?

• The goal is to get people a playable painted army by the end of the challenge
  
  

WHAT MINIS CAN I USE?

• Call of the Crown was inspired by the glorious armies and ravening hordes of 80s and 90s Warhammer Fantasy Battle; while these classic Citadel and Marauder minis are wonderful, the challenge aims to be inclusive and participants may use any minis they believe fit the vibe or draw inspiration from that era
  
  

WHAT PAINTING STYLE SHOULD I USE?

• Whatever you want. Yes, really—whatever you want. 80s 'Eavy Metal. 90s Red Era. Blanchitsu. Something else entirely. You do you
  
  

WHEN DOES IT START?

• The challenge kicks off in earnest on 1 October 2026 
  
  

WHEN DOES IT END?

• The challenge concludes 31 March 2027
  
  

HOW DOES IT WORK?

• Each month, you paint up at least one unit of fantasy miniatures
  
  
• Take a picture by the 1st of each month showing the unpainted minis (primed is OK) you'll paint that month and email it to me
  
  
• Take a picture by the last day of the month showing them all painted up and email it to me
  
  
• Send all pics to CalloftheCrown@gmail.com on the first and last days of the month, respectively, for all six months of the challenge
  
  
• In addition to the pics, emails should include:
• your name; 
• your preferred display name (if you don't want your real name shown); and a
• brief description of what you've painted
  
  

RULES & OTHER MISCELLANY

• Every month has a theme; participants are encouraged, but not required, to interpret that theme through the lens of their particular army, and paint up something they believe fits the theme for their force
  
  
• Each month's entry must include at least ONE LEGAL UNIT under whatever set of Warhammer Fantasy (or The Old World) rules that you intend to play with
  
  
• By the end of the challenge, you must have painted at least 1,000 points under your chosen rule set
  
  
• You get one mulligan (i.e., a free pass for one month)
  
  
• Miss more than one month and you’re out
  
  
• Photos of your monthly submissions will be displayed on this blog, and may also appear in videos on my YouTube channel, as well as a possible Call of the Crown Instagram page; by participating in the challenge you consent to my use of your images there and waive any rights to compensation for use of the same
  
  
• Please, for the love of Gork, use the same email address to send all your entries during the course of the challenge
